Contemporary Japanese Ceramics
Japan is widely regarded as producing the best ceramics of the 20th century with contemporary clay artists showing remarkable creativity, technical virtuosity and diversity This exhibition showcases a selection of works acquired by Hamilton Art Gallery in recent years.

11 January - 27 February

William Hogarth 18th Century Prints: Industry and Idleness
William Hogarth was a great English artist of comic satire and social commentary. This series of contrasting satires illustrate Hogarth's 18th century take on the rewards of hard work versus idleness. 

25 January - 20 March

Kim Hoa Tram Paintings (organised by MiFA (Melbourne International Fine Art Gallery)
Zen inspired scrolls and paintings by Vietnamese-born, Melbourne based artist Kim Hoa Tram feature in this exhibition.  Tram draws inspiration from his spirituality, from nature and from his roots in the Chinese tradition, especially Chinese ink painting and calligraphy

Friends Art Deco Loan Exhibition
A loan exhibition organised by The Friends of Hamilton Art Gallery consists of  items in the Arts Deco style borrowed from members of The Friends.

Imagining the Orient (A National Gallery of Victoria touring exhibition)
This exhibition focuses on the exoticism and romanticism of the old Orient -Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria, as well as parts of North Africa. Paintings, prints, drawings and photographs show how the Orient was experienced and imagined in Europe in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.  The exhibition also includes Oriental artefacts which inspired European design and decorative motifs in all kinds of objects including ceramics and glassware.

Japanese Prints
The Gallery received a generous gift of Japanese prints in 2009 and this, their first public showing, is complimented with prints already in the collection.

'There's something in this and I think you know': Graeme Finn Videos
This suite of short videos is themed around impressions of six European cities.  Graeme trained as a painter in the 1990s at the Victorian College for the Arts and now lives near Hamilton.  He recently spent three years in Europe where he made the videos.  The Hamburg Contemporary Art Museum liked them and purchased the entire series.

The Spirit in the Land (McClelland Gallery + Sculpture Park & NETS Victoria touring exhibition)
Spirit in the Landexplores the connection between eleven Australian artists, historical and contemporary, indigenous and non-indigenous, and their special appreciation and engagement to the spiritual ethos and power of the land.  Over 40 works by Lorraine Connelly-Northey, John Davis, Russell Drysdale, Rosalie Gascoigne, Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Dorothy Napangardi , Sidney Nolan, John Olsen, Lin Onus, Rover Thomas and Fred Williams have been drawn from private, state and public gallery collections throughout Australia

Contemporary Australian Glass
A survey of some of the masters of contemporary Australian studio glass from a private collection and Hamilton's permanent collection.

Australian Drawings
The Gallery holds a selection of drawings by various artists as part of the permanent collection. This exhibition draws on this group and celebrates the art of the pencil!

ACCA Artists in Residence (Australian Centre for Contemporary Art Project)
As part of its program of extending contemporary art to the regions the Australia Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne, is organizing artists to work in regional areas and show their works in the associated Galleries.  Installation artists Alex Pittendrigh and Kate Daw will work at the Gallery and in the community exploring themes related to the Gallery's collection and its connection with the community.

Sandby's Tours in Wales
Paul Sandby visited Wales a number of times and inevitably these tours were explored in picture books depicting scenic landscapes and buildings. This exhibition draws together aquatints from these tours, using the images to trace Sandby's journeys.

2 August - 2 October

50 Years of Collecting 1961-2011 - A Celebration!
Highlights of the collection feature throughout the Gallery as we celebrate our 50th birthday. Includes the inaugural exhibition of the John Wolseley Tapestry commissioned to mark the 50th anniversary of Hamilton Art Gallery and woven at the Australian Tapestry Workshop, Melbourne.

9 August - 16 October

Hamilton TOPS
The creative output of the year 12 students features in this exhibition of artworks & graphic design by VCE students from Southern Grampians Secondary Schools –  Baimbridge College, Balmoral Community College, Good Shepherd College, Monivae College & The Hamilton & Alexandra College.
