Jade & Ivory
Most of the decorative figures, animals and boxes in this exhibition were intricately carved in China during the 19th century when, unlike today, large amounts of ivory were available.  Jade has become synonymous with Chinese culture where it is considered the most valuable material known and is treasured for its hardness, toughness and rich colourings.

Modern Australian Paintings
Including works from the permanent collection by Howard Arkley, Tim Maguire, Tim Johnston and Kerrie Leishman

William Hogarth Prints                                                                                                                                          
The morals and absurdities of 18th century English life feature in this exhibition of prints by renowned English painter and caricaturist William Hogarth.  

11 February – 5 April

Tea, Sake & Incense
This exhibition showcases some of the treasures of Hamilton’s Japanese ceramics collection and explains the unique cultural practices of sake drinking and the tea ceremony.

Abstract Australian Art
Abstract prints & paintings from the permanent collection featuring the great classic art style of the 20th century including works by Melinda Harper, Michael Jeffrey, Ildiko, Kovacs, Roger Kemp and Richard Havyatt.

John Firth-Smith Prints
John Firth-Smith (b.1943), a Sydney abstract painter, won a number of 'young artist' prizes in the 1960s for his paintings of yachts on Sydney Harbour. This exhibition includes screenprints from his yachting series.

8 April – 31 May

Richard Nylon Hats
One of Australia's finest and most original milliners, Richard grew up in Hamilton and now works in the hub of Melbourne's fashion world where he torments feathers, wire and crinoline into breathtaking headwear inspired by the natural world.

Australian Prints
The larger prints from the collection are often framed works and this exhibition brings together some of the Gallery’s recent acquisitions.

Art Nouveau & Art Deco
Ceramics, silver and glass from 1900-1930 including works by French decorator and crafts designer Paul Follot, Danish silversmith Georg Jensen, Belgium architect and designer Henry Van de Velde, renowned French glass-maker  René Lalique and Italian designer Gio Ponti.

Shead, Storrier & Peart
Prints from the permanent collection by Gary Shead, Tim Storrier and John Peart, three of Australia’s well established and respected artists all born in the 1940s.

3 June – 19 July

Paul Sandby Prints
The Gallery not only holds the treasured Sandby gouaches but also some 200 prints by and after Sandby. This exhibition focuses on a selection of these prints depicting the late 18th century British Isles.

22 July – 20 September

Vignerons Choice
An exhibition of artworks selected from Hamilton’s permanent collection by Southern Grampians winemakers.

Festival of Watercolour
The Gallery holds a large collection of Australian watercolours from colonial times onwards and this exhibition looks at the use of this medium from the 1860s to the present.  Artists represented include Louis Buvelot, William Tibbits, Hans Heysen, Harold Herbert, J.J. Hilder, Blamire Young, J.W. Tristram, R.W. Sturgess, Norman Lindsay, Rah Fizelle, Ethel Spowers, Tom Garrett, Napier Waller, Frederick Bates, Kevin Lincoln, Tim Storrier, Victor Majzner and John Scurry.

Celebrating Australian Ceramics
A selection of Australian ceramics from the permanent collection to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Ceramics Victoria Inc.

9 September – 8 November

Victorian Era Prints
All those marvellous reproductive prints, small to large, that decorated people’s homes before the advent of colour printing come to the fore in this exhibition.

Hamilton TOPS
Exhibition of artworks & graphic design by VCE students from Southern Grampians Secondary Schools – Baimbridge College, Balmoral High School, Good Shepherd College, Monivae College & Hamilton & Alexandra College

Treasures from the Herbert & May Shaw Bequest
Hamilton Art Gallery’s foundation lay upon the treasures of the Shaw Bequest, one of the great art bequests of the nation, and this exhibition focuses on some the masterworks that Herbert and May Shaw had collected and later left the Gallery in 1957.

Barbara Brash Prints
Barbara Brash (1925-2002) pioneered various forms of printmaking including using  the Laser Colour Copier as a print making tool to create colour prints.

Australian Paintings
The Christmas period usually presents an opportunity for us to bring a new group of Australian paintings out of storage and to display the wealth of Hamilton Art Gallery’s marvellous collection.
