_PRINT COLLECTION

The print collection spans from 17th century European old master prints to large holdings of 18th century works by William Hogarth and Paul Sandby through to an extensive collection of post-1960 Australian prints. There is a fine holding of the works of Samuel Palmer and Edward Calvert representing English 19th century prints. A number of the Calverts were gifts from the artist to Edward Bowden Johns, his teacher, which came to the Gallery from Miss Helen Johns his descendent.

Most types of prints – etchings, lithographs and engravings to name a few - are represented in the collection. Some of the gems are works by artists as disparate as Claude Lorrain and Francis Bacon and Australian prints are represented with works by Norman and Lionel Lindsay, Arthur Boyd, Fred Williams, Tim Maguire and Ruth Johnstone. The print collection is exhibited in the Gaussen Galleries Printroom on a rotating basis of two monthly exhibitions.
