The Gallery holds an extensive collection of glass and continues to develop this part of the collection.
In the past few years groups of glass from Japan, Czechoslovakia, England and Australia have entered the collection. Some of these – such as the studio glass from Japan and Australia – are of recent origin whereas that from England was made anonymously in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The pieces from Czechoslovakia (the old Bohemian Glass) are from the 1960s and 1970s when the country was under communist rule and little glass was exported to the West.
At last we have been able to represent the 20th century work from this country and complete the representation of contemporary work from all the old European glass producers.
