Paul Sandby frequently returned to Windsor Castle as subject matter for his prints and arguably his finest works were his aquatints depicting Windsor Castle.

He produced other prints depicting Windsor and the Gallery holds his two major gouaches depicting Windsor Forest and the Sawmill at Windsor Great Park.

Sandby’s access to Windsor was arranged by his brother John who was the Keeper of Windsor Great Park which in their day was the King’s hunting preserve.
