Whilst we commence exciting climate control and lighting upgrades, we’re taking Art Outside The Walls!

From a pop-up exhibition in a new space to creative workshops held in venues across the region, Hamilton Gallery is taking art to new places in the next few weeks! Whilst we can’t access the gallery building we’re working with a host of talented creatives in exciting new places, engaging all ages in this series of events.

Want to learn about printmaking and make some awesome art?  We’ll be exploring printmaking techniques like so many amazing artist in our collection such as Margaret Preston and Sidney Nolan! 

We’ll teach you all about composition, color theory, and texture, and how you can use these to make your prints look amazing. Don’t worry if you’re not Picasso yet, we welcome kids of all skill levels, so come on down and get creative with us! We’ll provide all the materials you need, so all you need to bring is your imagination. Let’s make some art and have some fun!

Unleash your creativity with this group participatory workshop painting and designing a large-scale collaborative artwork. Be guided in decorating calico pieces which will combine to form a large scale piece of art inspired by local public art like the new YUMCHA mural in Hamilton!

Indulge in the beauty of the human form at our nude life drawing session at Chateau Kolor in Penshurst that is all about the Baroque!

Immerse yourself in a relaxed atmosphere where creativity thrives, accompanied by refreshing drinks, delectable snacks as well as a live Baroque strings performance.

Chateau Kolor is an exquisite 1868 bluestone homestead nestled on a working Merino sheep farm in picturesque Penshurst, surrounded by the scenic beauty of Gunditjmara Country. Penshurst is a gem at the foot of the dormant volcano Mt Rouse, is only 25 minutes from Hamilton.

The property boasts stunning Heritage listed gardens, an enchanting old Wool-shed, and breathtaking views of the Grampians and local farmlands.

Let your creativity soar and enjoy an afternoon of artistry, mingling, and pure enjoyment. All skill levels are welcome to participate!

Tickets are $75 including a complimentary glass of local wine and delightful nibbles.

Have you ever wanted to play with your food? Well, now you can! In this class, we’ll be making adorable felt food art inspired by traditional still life paintings.

We’ll provide all the materials you need, so all you need to bring is your creativity and a sense of fun! Whether you’re a mini Picasso or just starting out, this class is perfect for kids of all skill levels.

By the end of the class, you’ll have your very own collection of felt food art that you can use for playtime, decoration, or even as a unique gift for someone special.

Art Outside The Walls: Life Drawing at Mount Sturgeon Homestead

The third and final life-drawing session in our ‘Art Outside The Walls’ program will take place at the renowned Mount Sturgeon Homestead in Dunkeld.

The Mount Sturgeon Homestead is a beautiful 1800’s colonial residence (and working farm) managed by the esteemed Royal Mail Hotel. Graced with a sweeping verandah that looks out onto arguably the most breathtaking panoramic view of Wurgarri (Mount Sturgeon), this property also has an abundant vegetable garden and enchanting orchard.

This event is hosted just 20 minutes from Hamilton in Dunkeld, the southern gateway to the Grampians National Park.

At this idyllic location our talented models will adopt captivating poses, giving both aspiring and seasoned artists an opportunity to capture their grace and allure on paper.

Art enthusiasts of all skill levels are warmly invited to embrace this transformative opportunity for artistic expression, convivial conversations and delight.

Tickets are $50 including tea, coffee and delectable nibbles, live acoustic music by Noah Sycopoulis, all materials and tuition.

We are thrilled to announce our upcoming nude life drawing event taking place on May 20th from 2-4pm. This is a rare opportunity to participate in life drawing at the historic Arrandoovong Homestead.

The event will be accompanied by drinks and nibbles to enhance the experience and provide a relaxed atmosphere for creativity to flourish. Models will pose in various positions, offering attendees the chance to capture the beauty and grace of the human form on paper. 

Whether you’re an experienced artist or just starting out, this event is open to all levels of skill and experience. Come join us for an afternoon of creativity, socializing, and fun.

HG:PLAY OUTSIDE THE WALLS

Join local artist Madi Whyte as they guide your little one through a series of tactile, sensory-stimulating artist workshops inspired by pieces from Hamilton Gallery’s collection.

Term 2 we are taking HG Play on the road and into our wider community with classes across Southern Grampians Shire Council.

Workshops nurture younger audiences to grow their sense of identity, their connection and contribution to the world, their wellbeing whilst stimulating young minds in a fun and social environment.

Hailing from Gunditjmara Country in regional Victoria, Madi Whyte works primarily in sculpture and photography

Whyte’s works have been gaining attention at The Other Art Fair, Melbourne, Hamilton Gallery, as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival, Swell Sculpture Festival, Queensland and Toorak Sculpture Village, Melbourne.

Closer to home, Madi hosts weekly HG: Play sessions for our littlest audiences, empowering our region’s future artists.
