The eighteenth-century saw a significant rise in porcelain manufacture in Europe as it became increasingly accessible to the aspiring middle classes. This exhibition reflects the Gallery’s rich holdings of eighteenth-century European porcelain figurine sculpture, many from the Shaw Bequest. The Shaw Bequest (including many ceramics purchased in 1953 from the Sir Keith Murdoch collection) formed the foundation of the Hamilton Gallery collection, with its nucleus being decorative arts.
