Showcasing the brilliance of Australian watercolour through the remarkable collection of Hamilton Gallery. Drawing on a long history oftradition and experimentation, this exhibition reveals transition and howcontemporary artists explore the malleability of the watercolour medium, producing new and unexpected results. Such artists as Napier Waller,Norman Lindsay, Hans Heysen, Arthur Streeton and John Wolseley demonstrate the potential for fine nuances, as well as spontaneous expression in their landscapes, portraiture, still lifes, abstract compositions and direct, expressionistic modes of painting.

Exhibiting the distinctive light and atmosphere of many various landscape, we celebrate the important contribution watercolour hasmade to the development of Australian art in the twentieth century.Works in this exhibition have been selected to show experimental combinations of various media and techniques in modernist and contemporary Australian art.
