Michael Shannon

    • Biography

Born into a farming family at Kapunda, South Australia, Shannon was taught by William Dargie and George Bell at the National Gallery School in Melbourne in 1945. He studied in Paris and London between 1949-50, and was influenced by Ferdinand Léger and Graeme Sutherland. The artist was interested in buildings, streets and city panoramas but later, after purchasing a house at Heathcote, near Melbourne, Shannon’s interest in and love of the landscape emerged.
