HG COLLECTION IN FOCUS

HG COLLECTION IN FOCUS

Join Dr. Samantha Happé on the last Thursday of each month at 12pm for an intimate 30-minute curator’s talk.

Every month, a different work from a current exhibition will be explored, offering insights into its history, context, and significance within the collection.

JULY: Why Paint a Tree?
Thursday 30 JULY, 12 PM

In this month's Collection in Focus, Dr Samantha Happé will explore the rise of tree portraiture in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British painting. Focusing on why artists treated individual trees as worthy subjects, we will explore ideas of national identity, landscape appreciation, scientific observation, landownership, memory, and the growing Romantic fascination with nature’s character and history.

Tickets available at reception on the day or via Eventbrite.
