The New Hamilton Gallery will be a transformative cultural space, bringing world-class art, innovative design, and dynamic public programming to the heart of Hamilton’s CBD.
The extensive community consultation process, which saw over 146 submissions received during the public exhibition period, was completed in March 2025. Feedback strongly reflected three key priorities for the project: community connection, tourism growth, and green spaces.
The Southern Grampians Shire Council officially endorsed the concept designs for the New Hamilton Gallery at its July 2025 Ordinary Council Meeting, marking a major milestone in this transformative cultural project.
Hamilton Gallery is recognised both nationally and internationally for its extraordinary collection and the breadth of exhibitions, with regular programs and events that seek to foster creativity and cultural engagement.
Hamilton Gallery opened on 22 October 1961, and rests on Gunditjmara, Tjap Wurrung, and Bungandidj Country. Located in the heart of the Southern Grampians, Hamilton Gallery is surrounded by mountains, cascading waterfalls, and volcanic plains, inspiring countless artists whose landscape works are in the Gallery’s collection.
