The Friends of the Gallery have been a constant source of support over the decades, and we want to recognise that connection through an upcoming exhibition, titled In Our Care.
Through an exploration of the key question ‘what does it mean to borrow something that is still lived with and loved?’ this will be a loan show with a difference. Hamilton Gallery is interested in the stories behind the art and the objects you submit to and we are seeking your support.
We are looking for items – art, objects, souvenirs, anything you have – that you treasure.
In Our Care is about the social history – your individual stories. The layers of associations that lay behind an item which add that extra depth and makes it so much more than what it seems. For example, you might have a drawing by your child that you have kept on the fridge door for the last twenty years. Perhaps you have a pair of secateurs that your grandfather gave you when you moved, or a faded souvenir print that you bought in Paris. Your connection to these items is what the exhibition will explore. Of course, you can have an artwork or a sculpture that is more in the field of ‘traditional art’, but only if it has a story behind it that is meaningful to you.
Submissions close Friday 3 July.
