DIgital World

Digital World presents technology based works from the Hamilton Gallery Collection.

The gallery has developed a strong foundation of digital works over the last twenty years including video, photography, animation and digital printmaking techniques. All artists within this exhibition have applied a diverse range of approaches to where the medium is essential to exploring the subject matter. Each artwork responds, reflects or represents our world, whether it be the natural, manmade or scientific.

Art and technology have always informed and advanced one another. From the camera obscura to the iPad, artists have utilised technology within their practice. Over the last two decades, digital art has grown in prominence as an independent form of art, as technology has become more sophisticated, economic and accessible. With NFT’s (Non-fungible tokens) rising in popularity, are we entering the renaissance of digital art and is it the next avant-garde movement?
