WHAT'S ON

Emma Stuart: One Land, Many Views

Artist Emma Stuart offers a deeply personal response to Mount Abrupt, the Grampians (c.1864) by Nicholas Chevalier, a significant painting held in Hamilton Gallery’s collection, reimagining this iconic vista in an entirely new way.

Across 30 interconnected panels, Stuart reinterprets the landscape not as a direct replica, but as a layered encounter, intimate, immersive, and alive with renewed energy.

Mud-dadjug, A New View, is a sensory response to place, rich in texture, memory, and the physical presence of the bush.

“Each panel feels like a memory, like entering the mind of another artist.” – Emma Stuart

Paired with a new body of work reflecting the regeneration of Gariwerd following the fires of early 2025, One Land, Many Views invites a deeper, more grounded connection to and interaction with the fragility of the landscape.

The Children’s Sensorium: Art, Play, Mindfulness

Bring your children along for a magical play adventure. The Children’s Sensorium is a fun, hands-on exhibition designed especially for kids aged 4–11. This immersive experience invites young minds to explore a vibrant world of touch, sound, sight, smell, and taste, all woven into a fun and engaging environment that sparks curiosity, supports wellbeing, and encourages resilience.

Through interactive installations and creative play materials, children are free to explore their senses, express emotions, and connect with their inner world — from feelings and thoughts to hopes and worries. It’s more than play; it’s a chance to grow through wonder.

So kick off your shoes, follow the sounds and signs, and dive into a world made just for you. Play, explore, and let your senses lead the way in this calm, creative celebration of childhood curiosity.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯’𝘴 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘮 is curated by Grace McQuilten with leading artistic direction from Boonwurrung elder N’arwee’t Carolyn Briggs, and is presented by RMIT Culture, Hamilton gallery and the Southern Grampians Shire Council.

Exhibition Dates: 24 May – 10 August, 2025

DIS/COMFORT: Jewellery from Victoria’s State Craft Collection

DIS/COMFORT: Jewellery from Victoria’s State Craft Collection (1977–1988) explores the complex relationship between jewellery and the human body. Showcasing works that challenge conventional design, some pieces invite touch with polished, curved surfaces, encouraging intimacy. Others appear restrictive or painful, demanding attention and rejecting the body they depend on. This exhibition blurs boundaries between comfort and discomfort, beauty and hostility, revealing how jewellery can simultaneously embrace and resist the body, pushing the limits of contemporary design.

Exhibition Dates: 15 March – 1 June, 2025
