This milestone exhibition shines a light on this generous collective and their diverse contribution to Hamilton Gallery; from acquiring and commissioning artworks to fundraising, engagement, and advocacy for the New Hamilton Gallery.
Join guest speaker, Dr Mark Nelson, the Friends committee, and members for the celebratory exhibition opening and launch of the 50th Anniversary publication on Friday 14 July from 5.30pm.
A new publication overviewing the contribution and history of the Friends’ will also be released at this event, including fascinating essays on Friends’ acquisitions, personal anecdotes and insights into the Friends’ social history.
With a 50-year history of active fundraising, advocacy and engagement, The Friends of Hamilton Gallery is a valued organisation that supports the gallery in a myriad of ways.
From hosting fundraising events, acquiring works and supporting a diverse range of educational, informative, and fun activities.
The Friends host a number of cultural activities and social events designed to bring the wider community into the gallery, including talks, lunches, garden parties, gala dinners and an annual Christmas party.
Friends members also curate exhibitions, contribute to gallery public programs and are key advocates for the bright future of the New Hamilton Gallery.

To celebrate 50 years of this remarkably generous collective we have produced a publication overviewing the Friends’ contribution to Hamilton Gallery over the past 5 decades.
The publication was launched at the exhibition opening, with copies still available from the Hamilton Gallery design store.

Friends Dinner
As part of anniversary celebrations, Friends’ members are invited to attend a celebratory dinner at the Hamilton Club following the public exhibition opening, with Guest Speaker, Dr. Mark Nelson.
Dr Nelson is Chair of the Campaign Committee, Sydney Modern Project Campaign at the Art Gallery NSW, and will speak on the topic, “What Makes a Great Gallery?”
